There are loads of ways you can get involved with shaping Hallam Union and your student experience, so what are you waiting for?
Student Reps
The Student Rep system has been developed to give every student at Hallam the means to voice their opinion on the quality of their student experience. It is also a key tool for the University to seek your views to help determine the future direction of your course and the University. Students have the opportunity to represent their course or their faculty. For more information about Student Reps, click here.
Student Assembly
New for this year is our student assembly, which is an open forum for any student to come along and debate any issue they may have that affects them as a student. These debates and opinions will then be fed directly into Union Council, the highest representative decision making body in the Union. There is no requirement to sign up or to attend each meeting, you can simply turn up if you have a motion or something specific you want discussing. Meeting times will be posted on the website once an assembly chair has been elected.
AGM
The Annual General meeting is where trustees present the audited accounts and the Trustees report. The membership are then given the chance to question the Trustees on their work and decisions.
A quorum of 30 Union members is required.
Referenda
The Union holds at least 2 referenda each year in order to agree policies of the Union.
An example of this is a referendum held last year, which was to determine what stance the Union would take on campaigning on education funding.
Make sure you keep an eye out for the ballot boxes and have your say in the way you want your Union run.
Elections
A cross campus election is held every year for the Union’s Officer Committee. Any student can run to be a member of the Officer Committee. The Committee consists of the following full time paid sabbatical positions:
· President
· Democracy and Communications Officer
· Education Officer
· Welfare and Community Officer
· Sports Officer
· Activities Officer
These officers will be students who have just completed their studies or taken a year out.
There are also 9 part time unpaid positions that you can do alongside your studies.
These are:
· Media Rep
· Academic Rep
· Disabled Students Rep
· Black, Minority, Ethnic (BME) Students Rep
· Volunteering Rep
· Societies Rep
· Womens Rep
· International Students Rep
· LGBT Rep
The elections will take place mid March and any Sheffield Hallam student is entitled to run in the elections. Nominations will open on 1st February 2010
