What does your Sports Officer do?

My First Blog

Hi!!! I’m Josh and I’m YOUR Sports Officer for this academic year. Make sure you check back on here to find out what I have been up to for you, our students! Don’t hesitate to contact me or pop into the office to come and ask any questions or to speak about your sporting experiences at SHU. Hope you’re all having a great summer and can’t wait for you to all be back in September :)

P.s It’s going to be an amazing year.

Manifesto

WHAT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS WILL I BRING TO THE ROLE?
As a Sports Development with Coaching student, over the last three years I have learnt the ins and outs of the Sports Development arena from strategic planning to event management to club development. These modules have allowed me to gain a great understanding, to which I can apply to the Sports Officer role! My involvement through the Union this year has been through the Be A Champion project, which uses the London 2012 Olympic Games to inspire and enthuse students all over the country to be a part of something they are passionate about be it sport, music or the arts. Inspiring and motivating students to take up sport and physical activity at Hallam is exactly what I want to do!

IN THIS ROLE I WILL ACHIEVE FOR STUDENTS

• League Hallam –To expand League Hallam and give responsibility to sports teams to drive participation after trials for students who are unsuccessful in making teams. In addition to this to introduce various leagues: Faculty, Halls and even a Hallam Vs Uni league
• Diversifying Team Hallam – Establishing new Team Hallam clubs such as Table Tennis, Women’s Futsal, Fencing, Gymnastics, Rugby 5’s/7’s, Equestrian and Handball clubs. With the establishment of new clubs this can improve our overall BUCS standing, by the new available BUCS points open to Sheffield Hallam.
• Disability Sport – Sport is for everyone regardless of physical and I feel Hallam as a University is under-represented in disability sport. I want to raise the awareness of disability sport and look at the establishment of disability Get Active sessions and clubs
• Tour – Establishing an internally organised sports tour for Team Hallam to showcase all our University’s sporting ability.

STUDENTS SHOULD VOTE FOR ME BECAUSE: Vote for Saydro!
