WHAT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS WILL I BRING TO THE ROLE?
I am currently the International Representative at Hallam and have a good relationship with the Union Council, the International Support Team and am currently chair of the International Standing Committee- a team of 8 individuals assisting me in addressing the needs of over 4000 International Students at Hallam. I have plenty of leadership experience from previous endeavours from my life in Dubai and from the last two years in Sheffield. Thanks to the great national training provided by the NUS and UKCISA, I have a greater insight into the problems facing International Students using the UK demographic as a focus group. I have, therefore had plenty of great opportunities to work with the Hallam Union team of 12/13 and the National team of International Officers from over 40 universities around the country to improve student systems and to fight for our welfare and betterment.
IN THIS ROLE I WILL ACHIEVE FOR STUDENTS
I hope to continue my progress with AIESEC Sheffield to provide a long-term outlet for International Students to go on placements, interact with students all over the world and go on short-term exchanges to any country in the world for low prices and in co-ordination with the AIESEC branch respective to the country they are visiting. I am currently investigating the needs of students when it comes to catering. I hope to introduce outlets that cater to the palletes of every student, national and international whilst ticking the boxes that satisfy the religious and dietary needs of International students. I hope to continue to co-operate with the NUS and UKCISA to increase the Union and University staff’s knowledge of the problems facing the UK’s International Students in order to improve Hallam’s stance when engaging serious issues. Work with a fresh International Standing Committee to exponentially improve systems and services more efficiently and in a shorter period of time with teamwork. Provide better inter-disciplinary support for mature and post-graduate students as many are international and have culture-clustering issues. Work with the Activities officer to improve inter-cultural society contact and communication. Improve Hardship Fund thresholds.
