WHAT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS WILL I BRING TO THE ROLE?
Hello, my name is Rehan and I am a first year student here at Sheffield Hallam studying Automotive Design Technology (BSc). I am a Sri Lankan national and grew up in Dubai, UAE. I speak two languages, English and Sinhalese, fluently and am able to interpret and communicate effortfully, but effectively, in three other languages which are French, Hindi and Arabic. I have attained a plethora of sharp skills from all my experiences so far. I was nominated the House Captain in my school as part of the prefect body and had to manage more than five hundred students pertinent to my house. I was then awarded a ‘Prefect of the Month’ medal six times consecutively. Another thing I am proud of is an R-Boat racing team that I started and lead. Over two years, I learned a lot about management, teamwork and planning from working closely with twenty-two people. Being just a student like all of you, I am looking forward to working closely with you all to reach higher pastures. I believe in change as a constant. It is what drives us to reach the future and I truly wish to play a part in making us better.
IN THIS ROLE I WILL ACHIEVE FOR STUDENTS
Being an International Student myself, I have had a full contact experience about what it is like to move somewhere entirely new and different. It may be hard for some of you and a breath of fresh air for others. Either way, I remember having a lot of things to manage and sort out. I completely understand the need to be heard. I am more than willing to answer your questions and listen to your suggestions in order to speed up this process. I hope to improve the presence of international students and provide full support for all ethnicities. This will include support when searching for jobs, language support, financing, improving the presence of current amenities at campus (i.e.: Multi-faith Chaplaincy, Mentor programme, Placement .etc), Improve pre-arrival support and providing leverage with choice of accommodation and travel. I also hope to set up an International Students’ society with modern social links and events for integration with home students. I would like you all to seek comfort in knowing that what concerns you concerns others and that all you have to do is ask -if help is required.
STUDENTS SHOULD VOTE FOR ME BECAUSE: For Everyone, From Everywhere, Vote Change.
