The Hallam Volunteering COMMITTEE 09/10
Kate Healey—Volunteering Officer
As Volunteering Executive I will continue to raise the profile of Hallam Volunteering within the Union, the University and the community, ensuring all our amazing achievements are recognised. I will also review and support all of the ongoing projects and activities to guarantee their success.
My main objectives for the year are the 4 Rs!
· Recruitment
· Retention
· Revitalisation
· Recognition
Alex Tate—Events and Technical Officer and Chair
As Events and Tech Officer my role involves leading a small team of volunteers. Our job as the Events and Tech Team is to get involved and get an insight into some of the events taking place within the Union. The team can help all of your projects with various technical areas of events including lights, sound, presentations and other media. We also have the opportunity to organise our own event which I hope to do over the next year.My role as Chair of the Committee includes attending and co-ordinating all Committee meetings to ensure that they are productive and benefit Hallam Volunteering as a whole. I am here to support not only other members of the Committee but support and represent the views of all volunteers.
Helen Roberts—Equal Opportunities Officer
Hello! I am Helen your Equal Opportunities Officer for this year. This year I hope that I will be available to help out with any issues regarding recruitment, diversity, training, as well as representing you and your project at the Committee meetings; also I can be used to help you out in any way that you feel that the Committee needs to help you out with your project.
Jess Barratt—Working with Children Project Representative
Hi everyone! I am this year’s Working With Children Representative on the Committee. This means that I represent the views of any volunteers working on the Children’s projects in the Committee meetings. Therefore if anyone on a Working with Children Project has a question, query or needs any support I am their first point of call. I am hoping that I will be able to make the link stronger from volunteers to the Committee and also make ALL volunteers feel that their opinions are being voiced at Committee meetings. Furthermore, I want volunteers to feel that they can come to me if they feel that they need supporting on their Project. I am the link to make sure that Hallam Volunteers feel they are going to get the most out of their volunteering experience. Hope too see you around and have an amazing time volunteering this year!!!
Harriet Swain—Working with Young People Project Representative
Hiya, I’m Harriet, known for having a silly large smile all the time! I started volunteering in my first year, then became project leader of LEAP in my second year which I was very nervous about, but loved it sooo much! I am now the Working with Young People Project Rep! I am studying the Physical Education and Youth Sport course, wanting to become a P.E. teacher soon! Having volunteered throughout my 3 years at Hallam has stood me in good stead to achieve my dream! Keep doing what your doing, enjoy every minute and reap the rewards at the end. I promise it will happen! Most of all love RESO! Lots of love xxx
Lucy Richards—Working with Adults Project Representative and Secretary
My name is Lucy and I’m on the Committee as the Working with Adults Project Representative. If you are on an Adult based project and you have any issues or problems, let me know and I will make sure it gets discussed and sorted at the Committee meeting. My aim is to attend at least one meeting for the different Adult projects to get more familiar with the project and the volunteers. I’m also the Secretary for the Committee so I have to take the minutes for each meeting!
Emma James – Fundraising Officer
As the Fundraising Officer I am here to support and assist the Fundraising team in their efforts to raise money for the Small Grants Fund. I am also here to help all volunteers if they have any questions about fundraising efforts or how to apply for money from the Small Grants Fund. My place on the Committee means that I can voice our opinions.
This year I really want everybody have a great time so will be putting on fantastic events, such as ‘Smash It’, whilst raising plenty of money to assist all volunteers with their incredible projects.
I am very lively and productive which means there will never be a dull or quiet moment for volunteers around me. I just want everybody to know that I’m here to help; as Miss Healey herself said, “We’re all in this together!”
Amy Moore - Publicity Officer
Hi there! I’m Amy and I am your Publicity Officer for 2009/10! As part of the Hallam Volunteering Committee it is my job to publicise all the fantastic work that Hallam Volunteering does. As Publicity Officer I am responsible for finding new stories, new contacts and new ways of publicising! With the rest of the Publicity team I will work to maintain good relations with all the volunteers and their projects. My personal aim for the year is to make sure as many people as possible know exactly who we are, what we do and how brilliantly well we do it!
Rich Owen - Working with Children Project Representative
My role on the Committee is one of the Working with Children Project Representative. I am the link between the Project Leaders and the Committee. I am here to help the Project Leaders if they need it and to give them a direct link with the Hallam Volunteering Committee. This role involves leasing with all of the projects that work with children. I shall be going to some of the meetings for the projects to find out what is going on within their project, what they have got planned and if they need help with anything. I shall then go back to the Committee and give any feed back I have received and let the Committee know about any problems anyone has or any great achievements any one has done.
My main objective for this year it to bring the H.V Committee and the Project Leaders closer together and making everyone feel as one. I believe that the experience I gathered from running my own project last year stands me in good stead for knowing how Project Leaders feel at certain times and I will know exactly what they want from their Committee. I also know how Hallam Volunteering work and what people expect from you as a volunteer.
A bit about the Committee and their roles…
The Hallam Volunteering Committee is a great way for any volunteer to influence Hallam Volunteering and help other volunteers. The Committee makes decisions about the future of Hallam Volunteering and works hard to support all the community projects. Committee members are elected every year and absolutely any volunteer can nominate themselves.
The Committee also work closely with the Support Teams.
The Volunteering Executive is also part of the Committee. The Volunteering Executive is a member of the Union’s Executive Committee as well as the HV Committee and is elected through Union elections. He/she is a part-time Executive Officer whose role is to raise the profile of Hallam Volunteering and monitor its activities.
What can the Committee and the Support Teams help you with?
The Volunteering Executive can help you to solve problems and raise your issues with the Hallam Union Executive Committee and Union Representative Council.
The Fundraising Officer and Support Team will help you come up with ideas to raise money for your project, and help you organise fundraising events. They also raise money for the Small Grant Fund, which you can apply to if you need some extra money for your project costs.
If you need posters, flyers or invitations designing for your project, then ask the Graphic Design Support Team.
The Publicity Officer and Support Team will write press releases about your project or event to see your work celebrated in the papers, and will also write articles for Volunteer Life and SHUlife magazines.
If you want assistance organising social events for your team, the Socials & Communications Officer can help you. They will also plan big social events for all volunteers for you and your team to meet volunteers from other projects.
Ask the Events & Technical Officer for their expertise to help add atmosphere and professionalism to your events – their team can help with lights, sound, presentations and other media.
The Equal Opportunities Officer and Support Team can run diversity training for your team and help you to consider the accessibility of your project sessions.
The Project Reps will help you to solve any problems or overcome challenges that your project might face – they are always there to give advice and support. They are happy to come along to your project sessions to be an extra pair of hands. They also represent your views at the Committee meetings so let them know what you think!
