Teachers Pet Story

The Teacher’s Pet project was set up in October 2011 by a student who wanted to share their idea.

The project is based on the process of growing and hatching a chick inside an egg without the need for the natural ‘mother hen’. It aimed to bring this fascinating process into schools in order to combine fun, excitement and education in a classroom environment.

How did the project got started?

Stage One: The student, who came up with the idea for the project, visited the HUBS to propose the idea for a new volunteer project to the volunteering staff.

Stage Two: Initial meeting – The student attended an initial meeting with the Volunteer Support Co-ordinator to discuss the project and their ideas.

Stage Three: Project Proposal – The student produced a Project Proposal which detailed the initial ideas that they had for the project sessions. It also included a short description of the project that would be used in the process of recruiting volunteers.

Stage Four: Set up the project – The project was officially set up and the process of recruiting volunteers took place. This was completed by the help of volunteering staff.

Stage Five: Team meetings – The team had an initial meeting to discuss the project and ideas. The team had weekly meetings to prepare for the sessions and then went into the schools to deliver these.
