MEDIA AND ADVERTISING OFFICER – VOLUNTEERING COMMITTEE – 2012/13

Description

Advise and assist the Volunteer Standing Committee and individual projects with general design needs.

Lead and support a team of volunteers to oversee the general design needs of the Volunteer Standing Committee and individual projects where requested.

Oversee and engage with student volunteers through all social media networks.

Assist and support the Publicity Team with designs for publications, newsletters and volunteer magazines.

Take the lead in coordinating the ‘VolunTV’ YouTube station and production of online materials.

Engage in actively promoting/advertising/publicising volunteering activities and events through social media networks.

Be a member of the Volunteering Standing Committee.

Actively fundraise for volunteering.

Any other duties appropriate to the role.

Commitment

Attend fortnightly committee meetings.

Regular one to ones with volunteering staff / Activities Officer.

Attend additional volunteering events (fairs, showcases, socials)

Regular meeting with role specific team to plan and organise events and campaigns

Desirable Skills 

Committed to personal development and willing to attend various training sessions related to role.

Willingness to listen to others and respect their opinions.

Able to work on own initiative and represent student volunteers.    

 CRB Requirements

A CRB is not a requirement but maybe useful for your role. This can be provided by Hallam Union.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER – VOLUNTEERING COMMITTEE – 2012/13

Description

Take minutes at ALL committee meetings including actions for each member then disseminate these to committee members, relevant staff and Officers

Lead and support a team of volunteers to oversee the general publicity needs of Volunteering with Hallam Union.

Contribute too and produce a termly volunteer publication that will be available via print and/or electronically (PDF)

Edit, produce and where necessary write contributions for a Volunteering Newsletter.

Contribute to the ‘Volunteering’ section on the Hallam Union website

Build and maintain effective links with internal publicity contacts within Sheffield Hallam University, and Hallam Union.

Build links with external organisations and publicity contacts.

Advise and assist individual projects with publicity where requested.

Find and develop better ways of promoting and marketing volunteer activities within Hallam University

Assist in recruitment by engaging with students in a variety of mediums e.g. recruitment lectures, Fresher’s day stalls, newsletters.

Find and develop new and innovative campaigns and materials to recruit volunteers

Be a member of the Volunteering Standing Committee and provide regular progress reports to them.

PRESIDENT (CHAIR) – VOLUNTEERING COMMITTEE – 2012/13

Description

Oversee and motivate the committee. 

Organise the committee agenda prior to meetings taking place and ensure all members have been included in the process.   

Chair the Volunteer Standing committee at meetings and encourage open dialogue between committee members.   

Act as spokesperson for the Committee. 

Meet regularly with volunteering staff to discuss committee progress and to take down information which can then be disseminated back to individual committee members at meetings. 

Ensure effective communication between staff and committee.  

Attend volunteering staff meetings and volunteering forums where necessary.

SPORT EVENT SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS

Description

Help Broomhall raise money for Sport Relief! The Broomhall Centre are planning a fun sports event for families living in and around Broomhall. Money raised on the day will go to Sport Relief.

As a volunteer you will be:

Supervising the sporting events, refreshments, general duties, setting up clearing away.

Commitment

 Sunday 1st April 2:30pm-5:30pm.

Desirable Skills 

Ability to control and organise.

Have good communication skills.

Essential Skills

Volunteers must have a current CRB

PHOTOGRAPHER OPPORTUNITY

Description:

Keen photographer needed for the annual Arches Dance Performance.

This is an exciting opportunity for a photographer who would like to develop their portfolio to be the head photographer (or a group to work together) at the Arches Dance Performance on 29th March 2012. The venue is at the Octagon, which is usually full to capacity, with 800 performers from local schools and dance groups and 400 spectators enjoying the dancing. The opportunity will be an ideal challenge for those studying photography and would like to expand their portfolio, as the venue is dark, with an array of coloured lights and fast moving action of the performers. Photos will then be used by the Arches School Sport Partnership for future promotional materials and sent to schools for their own use. 

Commitment:

1 day – 29th March 2012 at the Octagon Centre, Sheffield

There are two performance, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. 1 student can cover the whole event or a group of students can cover across both events:

Afternoon performance: 12pm-2.30pm

Evening performance: 5.30pm – 8.15pm

Opportunity to arrive earlier for both to see set up of hall and gauge lighting etc.

Skills Required:

Passion for photography and ability to take interesting pictures. Previous experience in sports type photography is not needed, as experience can be gained during the placement. See attachments for examples of previous years photography.

Use of own equipment is essential, as the Arches does not own any photographic equipment.

CRB Requirements:

Volunteers will be required to complete an Arches CRB.

The deadline for applying for this role is Monday 5th March 2012.
