SUPPORTERS FOR SWIMMING EVENT – MENCAP

Description

Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.

Mencap are looking for volunteers to help at their Supporters for Swimming Event on 4th May 2013. There are various roles available including, pool marshall, programme sales, kit collection and security.

Commitment

Must be available on 4th May 2013 in the morning, afternoon or both.

NATIONAL JUNIOR AND YOUTH DISABILITY SWIMMING CHAMPIONS 2013

Description

All volunteers will act as Basket Marshals, looking after the kit of swimmers during the races, overseeing warm-ups, and helping people to the right places etc.

When you arrive at Ponds Forge, come to reception, which is located at the front of Ponds Forge where one of our volunteers will meet you.

Collect you’re t-shirt and accreditation and you will be taken down to Poolside and introduced to the deck manager who will give you your role and get you started.

Please do not bring big bags with you. There is space to store small bags downstairs.

Commitment

Volunteers will be required on Saturday 2nd March from 7:30am – 5pm or Sunday 3rd March from 7:30am – 1pm. If you are available both days you can volunteer at both.

Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

BUCS GATORADE NATIONALS – BUCS

Description

The BUCS Gatorade Nationals, the pinnacle of the domestic university sporting season, will be in Sheffield in February 2013. This season, 12 BUCS sports will be in action over three days of competition.

Volunteers will assist at the event in roles such as ticket selling and access monitors. All volunteers will receive event clothing, food/drink during their shift and travel expenses will be reimbursed (to a set limit). No experience is necessary as a full briefing will be provided. Volunteers will be acting as representatives for the event and ambassadors for the region; therefore the right attitude is essential.

Commitment

Volunteers will be required between 22nd- 24th February.

Essential Skills

Good communication, working as a team and be punctual and reliable.

TABLE TENNIS COACH – ACTIVITY SHEFFIELD & WITHIN REACH

Description

Activity Sheffield is the Sport, Play, Physical Activity, Culture, Dance and Environment service of Sheffield City Council. The service provides opportunities, in all the previously mentioned areas, across the City of Sheffield. From sports camps, to grass sledging, to elite clubs, we offer activities for all ages and abilities.

Activity Sheffield work closely with Within Reach to run the Disability Sheffield project, which encompasses all of the above with a focus on disability and inclusive participation.

As a volunteer you will help to deliver Table Tennis coaching to children aged 8-16 with a variety of disabilities and/or impairments

You will be working along-side an Activity Sheffield member of staff

Commitment

Every Wednesday for 6 weeks from 7th November – 12th December

5.00 pm – 6.00 pm. Hillsborough Leisure Centre

Essential Skills

A passion in one or more of the following: Sport, Play, Physical Activity and Culture,

Enthusiasm for working with children and young people

Minimum of Level 1 Table Tennis Coaching Qualification

Desired skills

Desire to support, help and encourage more people to be more active, more often

SWIMATHON EVENT ASSISTANT – MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

Description

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high – quality nursing, totally free, to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home supported by their families.

Last year Swimathon raised £1.5million for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation. This year we want to raise even more to help Marie Curie nurses provide free nursing care to cancer patients and those with other terminal illnesses in their own homes.

In April Marie Curie Cancer Care will be diving into our Swimathon Appeal and one of our big pools is Ponds Forge, Sheffield. They are looking for volunteers to help on the day with things such as: lap counting, refreshments, Stewarding, working on registration desk and other such roles.

Commitment

This will be on Sunday 5th May 2013 starting a 9am and finishing at 1pm.

Desirable Skills

Outgoing, reliable and flexible.
