ART SHEFFIELD 2013 FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER

Description

Art Sheffield 2013 is a citywide contemporary art event showcasing artwork by locally, nationally and internationally based artists. This fifth edition of the Art Sheffield Festival will launch on 3rd October and run until 14th December 2013.

The festival will take the form of a multi-venue exhibition and programme of events, screenings and talks, spread across the city’s gallery spaces: Bloc, the Graves Gallery, S1 Artspace, Site Gallery, Yorkshire Artspace, Sheffield Institute of Arts and in the public realm. Artists and other creative organisations throughout the city are also invited to become a part of Art Sheffield 2013 through fringe exhibitions and events.

Art Sheffield is looking for passionate and enthusiastic volunteers to get involved in this year’s festival.

Opportunities for volunteers will be available in the following areas and may include the following tasks:

Festival Launch & Special Events

Supporting the Festival Producer to prepare the event

Setting up for workshops and talks

Meeting and greeting guests and VIPs

Hosting artists and guests

Running during events

Documenting the launch and special events

Technical & Installation

Supporting artists and technical teams in installing work

Acting as production runners

Acting as technical support during live events

Maintaining the high quality presentation of exhibitions during the festival

Front of House & Invigilation

Opening, closing and supervising exhibition spaces

Switching installations on/off

Meeting and greeting visitors

Acting as the friendly face of the festival, sharing advice with visitors and recommending other festival activities and events

Manning the Art Sheffield Information Kiosk at Sheffield Station

Encouraging audience feedback

Marketing & Social Media

Creating social media posts prior to and throughout the festival, featuring exhibitions and events

Distributing marketing material in Sheffield

Promoting the festival online

Creating updates for the festival website and blog

Encouraging audience feedback

Audience Participation & Feedback

Assisting at festival workshops and participatory events

Assisting with administration and event bookings

Talking to festival visitors and gathering feedback

Carrying out evaluation surveys

Commitment

1 day per week (up to 8hrs) for up to 12 weeks. Volunteers should make a minimum commitment of 6 days over the festival.

Festival dates: 3rd October 2013 – 14th December

Essential Skills

Volunteers for Art Sheffield 2013 should:

Be available to volunteer for no less than 6 days during the course of the festival between 3rd October and 14th December 2013

Be available to attend a training session in Sheffield at the end of September 2013

Have good communication skills

Work well within a team

Be able to use their own initiative

Be reliable and punctual

Desirable Skills

Have an interest in contemporary art, galleries and museums

Preferably be based in Sheffield or the surrounding area and be flexible in terms of time commitments and volunteering hours

DBS Requirements (Previously known as CRB Check)

A DBS is not required for this opportunity. This can be provided  for all home students.

THEATRE STEWARD – MONTGOMERY CHARITY

Description

This is an opportunity with the Montgomery charity which is an arts and Christian Centre with a medium size theatre, various rehearsal/workshop/exhibition space.

As a Steward you will be responsible for: welcoming patrons, taking tickets and maintaining the house during performances. If there is an emergency (medical, weather,etc.) or if a patron has a need Stewards must be on duty and eager to help them. Stewards represent the theatre and they should remain pleasant, helpful, and courteous.

Commitment

Evenings performances 6:30-10pm, Matinees, 1:30pm-4pm

Desirable Skills

Interest in the arts, good customer service and friendly.

HOSPITALITY VOLUNTEER – MONTGOMERY CHARITY

Description

This is an opportunity with the Montgomery charity which is an arts and Christian Centre with a medium size theatre, various rehearsal/workshop/exhibition space.

As a volunteer you will help to make the venue a welcoming and friendly place that offers a cafe service to the many visitors coming to the theatre. Being part of the hospitality team means being friendly and helpful, setting up the cafe space, serving drinks and biscuits and tidying up afterwards. Occasionally there is a need to direct people to where the café space is if it is very busy.

Commitment

Any evening usually 6pm-9pm when there is a show on in the theatre or occasional matinees 1pm-4pm. 3 hours each time but not every week

Desirable Skills

Good communication skills either by email or by text

Good people skills;

Ability to speak a minimum of English to the visitors

MARKET RESEARCH & EVALUATION SUPPORT – MUSEUM SHEFFIELD RETAIL

Description

The Museums shops are more vital than ever now in providing revenue for Museums Sheffield.

To help them achieve their target, (which will in turn enable us to maintain our tip-top standard of displays and collections maintenance), they need to be sure they are selling the right products to our audience.

They are looking for an experienced Market Researcher to make sure they are on the right track. Engaging with their customer is vital, finding out what they can improve; deliver well and what they can do to for sustaining their future.

This might suit a post-graduate student to prove his/her skills to potential employers.

This role will include:

Initial discussions with the Retail General Manager about subject matter

Design the right questions to ask the customer for a survey

Prepare the survey for the retail outlets

Deliver the survey engaging with the customer on the shop floor

Evaluating results in report and table format

Writing a report with recommendations

Deliver results to Retail Managers

Commitment

Half a day per week.

Essential Skills

Experience/Qualification in Market Research or undergrad/post-grad marketing student

Self-motivated

Experience of retail research (ideally!)

Loves engaging with people

Can work on own initative

Numerate and comfortable manipulating and presenting information

NATIONAL BIKE WEEK EVENT VOLUNTEERS – MUSEUM SHEFFIELD

Description

Museum Sheffield is looking for enthusiastic and friendly people to celebrate National Bike Week, 15 – 23 June, help Museums Sheffield to facilitate their cycling fundraiser. Don’t worry – you don’t need to cycle yourselves (unless you want to!) They just need volunteers to help our visitors use static bikes, record race information and ensure the smooth running of the event.

Confidence and enthusiasm are essential for this role – we need to get our visitors ‘in gear’ to donate!

Commitment

15th – 23rd June, 9.00 am – 5.30 pm each day, but you only need to volunteer for one day, unless you would like to do both!
