About Us

Project Leaders 2012/2013 Needed !!

Have you got what it takes to be an inspiring and encouraging leader? Want to step things up with an exciting challenge for 2012/13? Why not consider becoming a Project Leader?

All the team projects require a Project Leader.

A Project Leader is a student volunteer who oversees a team project from start to finish and inspires and motivates the team to organise, plan, fundraise for and deliver the project.

This is a slightly larger volunteer role than others, but you have the support of a member of staff to help you along the way. We also provide full, in-depth training, and you have the opportunity to attend Project Leader Forums once a month – a student led support meeting held by our Volunteering Standing Committee.

If you’re interested in becoming a Project Leader, please speak to a member of staff in the first instance, by calling 0114 225 5005 or e-mailing volunteering@shu.ac.uk

 Volunteering With Hallam Union

About volunteeringVolunteering with Hallam Union exists to provide students and staff at Sheffield Hallam University with the opportunity to contribute to the community through a variety of enjoyable community projects in and around Sheffield.  There are loads of opportunities to choose from and you can volunteer as much or as little as you like.

The staff team are based in the Activities Pod in the HUBS. You can drop in any time to find out more about the opportunities available. You can also find out by clicking here!

For details of the support Volunteering with Hallam Union offers its volunteers, come in and speak to someone in the team.

We offer four different types of volunteering opportunities:

Team Projects

Volunteer in a team to deliver a project in the local community.

These projects are led by a student project leader, and as a team you will plan, fundraise and deliver the project. There is a large variety of projects to choose from, for example, delivering history workshops in schools, running large scale events, or delivering cooking classes in the community. Full training is provided, and each team is supported by a member of Hallam Staff.

All of the team projects require a Project Leader - a student volunteer who will lead the project and team from start to finish!  If you would like to develop your leadership and communication skills, and step up to a new challenge this academic year, then why not consider applying to be a Project Leader? If you are interested and would like to know more, e-mail volunteering@shu.ac.uk or click here.

Individual Volunteering

Volunteer individually with a local organisation.

We have selected a number of fantastic local organisations where you can volunteer. Slightly different to the team projects, you will volunteer alone, or with a couple of others, and decide on the days and times in agreement with the organisation. These opportunities include mentoring in secondary schools, helping out at a local farm, assisting children with literacy in primary schools and joining a local ‘futsal’ team!

One-Offs

Just turn up and volunteer for a few hours or for a whole day in the community.

Look out for our one-off opportunities throughout the year! We have lots of exciting things for you to get involved in, so if you’ve got a few spare hours, why not try something new? Examples of one-off opportunities include woodland conservation, making Christmas decorations for a local Christmas party and assisting with community events throughout the year.

Start Your Own Project!

If you have an idea for a volunteering project then we want to hear from you! Many of our existing projects first developed from the ideas of our students, so no matter how big or small, share them with us! If you have an idea for a project, e-mail r.ripley@shu.ac.uk and Rich will get back to you to arrange a chat.
