Student Reps

Giving Feedback

Your role as a Course Rep is to ensure that any feedback that your course mates have is taken forward to the course. The main way you can do this is through informal ongoing communication with your Course Leader and through participating in Staff/Student Committee meetings.

Before the meeting…

  • Make sure all feedback you have is passed on to the course  team.
  • Read the agenda and identify important items.
  • Read the minutes from previous meetings.
  • Clarify any matters you are unsure of.
  • Make sure you know where and when the meeting is.
  • Be aware of what you want to get out of the meeting.

During the meeting…

  • Actively participate in discussions.
  • Be concise when making points.
  • Listen to others’ views and contribute your own.
  • Be representative (speak for your course mates not just yourself).
  • Ask for clarification where it is needed.
  • Make lots of notes.

___________________________________________________________________

After the meeting…

  • Carry out any action points you have been allocated.
  • Report back to the students on the progress of their feedback.
  • Reflect on the meeting and write this up for your Hallam Award if you have chosen to pursue this.

Staff/Student Committee meetings usually take place 2 or 3 times per year and are attended by staff from your course and Course Reps. The key to successful meetings is to ensure that any feedback you have is passed on to course staff as it arises and then the meeting is an opportunity to follow up on what as happened with the feedback so that you can let students know the progress.
