Whatever your tastes, Sheffield has it. Hallam Union is in the middle of the cultural quarter where you will find lots of little art galleries and the Showroom, the independent cinema. The town centre has a good selection of high street shops (but there are loads more in Meadowhall too) plus the Millenium Gallery, Winter Garden and Peace Garden. Up onto Devonshire Street you will find more independent shops for that something a bit special and Devonshire Green which plays host to Tramlines, Sheffield’s annual free music festival. Ecclesall Road is another favourite for boutique shops and posh restaurants (good for if your parents are visiting) and London Road is amazing for the best international restaurants at bargain prices. Beyond the centre there are loads of parks, and beyond the city we have the Peak District. Take a look at why our current Hallam Student Officers love Sheffield below!
” I Love Sheffield because of the exciting, interesting and polite people it attracts. It is a great city for sport, culture and events, plus the fact that it is within touching distance from the peaks is awesome. I have spent three great years here and I’m looking to forward spending more time in ‘The Steel City’.”Emmet Cleaver, Welfare & Community Officer
“I love Sheffield because it’s always alive with so much to do and has so much to offer! It’s a small city with a big heart and has a safe and friendly buzz. Alongside the great shopping and nightlife, I love the beautiful surroundings Sheffield offers – and I even have the Peak District right on my doorstep.” Alice Game, Democracy & Communications Officer
“ What I love most about Sheffield is Eccy Road! There are so many good restaurants there and it’s just full of students so it has such a strong community feel. Also it’s not too far from everything that’s happening in the city centre!” Josh Saydraouten, Sports Officer
“The reason why I like Sheffield is because of the diversity it offers. It offers you the chance to be in a thriving city centre which offers you shopping as well as plenty of restaurants and bars. And if those shops aren’t enough you get on the tram and travel to Meadowhall which offers you so much more. However if you wish to go the other direction, you can walk or bus into the middle of the peak district, which is an ideal place to chill out and get out of the city. Another area which is great for students especially is Ecclesall road. With the majority of the population in the area Sheffield Hallam Students you are always near friends. Plus it has everything you need as a student, plenty of bars, loads of restaurants and a supermarket as well. Also near the end of it there is Encliffe Park which is a great place to relax and have a BBQ when the weather is good.” Howard Duffy, President
“I love Sheffield because it’s a fun and vibrant city with something for everyone, whether you are interested in sport, media, music or theatre!” Emily Connor, Education Officer
“So I love Sheffield because it’s an amazing vibrant and fun city, its big enough to meet new people but small enough to feel safe. I’ve been here for nearly five years and I still love the place.”
Sophie Amos, Activities Officer
