We have created this page as a bit of a guide to help you get the most out of Sheffield which will help you get the most out of your time here at Hallam.

Above we have put together a map which has all the places we think you need to know about in Sheffield on. From our favourite places, if your stuck for something to do, to useful information such as medical centres and A&E! Click on the placemarks to find out more.

Why we love Sheffield

Whatever your tastes, Sheffield has it. Hallam Union is in the middle of the cultural quarter where you will find lots of little art galleries and the Showroom, the independent cinema. The town centre has the a good selection of high street shops (but there are loads more in meadowhall too) plus the Millenium Gallery, Winter Garden and Peace Garden. Up onto Devonshire Street you will find more independant shops for that something a bit special and Deveonshire Green which plays host to Tramlines, Sheffield’s annual free music festival. Ecclesall Road is another favourite for boutique shops and posh restaurants (good for if your parents are visiting) and London Road is amazing for the best international restaurants at bargain prices.  Beyond the centre there are loads of parks, and beyond the city we have the Peak District. Take a look at why our current Hallam Student Officers love Sheffield below!

“Sheffield is a diverse, exciting, fun, energetic, contemporary city. There’s something to do every night and I’ve never found myself bored whilst I’ve been here over the past few years…. and the people are just GREAT!” Carl Hawkes, Welfare & Community Officer
“I love Sheffield because…Sheffield was the UK’s first National City of Sport and is home to some world class facilities such as Ponds Forge, EIS (English Institute of Sport), and Don Valley International Athletics Stadium. There are many more great facilities in Sheffield which students at Sheffield Hallam have the opportunity to train and compete in, which not every city can offer.” Colan Leung, Sports Officer
“I love Sheffield because it is a perfect sized city with a never ending number of things to do. Having both Universities merged into the city allows students to interact with the community which I think is great and unique. It’s beauty invites people and events so that they can share their experience with Sheffield which I guarantee is always a good one.” Helen Francis, Activities Officer
“I love Sheffield because despite it being a big city it has a very tight knit community feel like a village.” Scott Storey, Education Officer
“Everything’s so close together, and it’s a tight knit community as a result.” Jake Kitchiner, President
Helen Bodsworth “Sheffield is such a vibrant and exciting city! There’s always lots to do, whether you just want to chill out in its many parks or fancy something a little more lively in the bars and clubs the city has to offer.” Helen Bodsworth, Democracy & Communicatons Officer
