Stage Services

What we do

Stage Services is a well established group of dedicated people within Sheffield Hallam University Union of Students, whose role is to provide consistent technical support for events.

Put simply, we’re the people who provide all the systems and operators for all the events run by the Union – club nights, comedy, live music, drama, film nights, DJs, Balls – we’re always there behind the scenes ensuring the event runs smoothly from a technical point of view.

What do we do?

  • Set up and configure sound systems for live bands
  • “Mix” front of house and monitors for live bands
  • Design and set up lighting for club nights, live music, drama, etc…
  • Operate the lighting systems for club nights and live music
  • Operate the visuals system and text messaging during club nights
  • Design and update visuals and electronic advertising across the Union
  • Maintain existing equipment and install new equipment to improve the Union’s technical facilities.
  • Provide ‘on the job’ and structured training
  • Enable you to be rewarded for volunteering as part of the Hallam Award
  • Go out on regular socials
  • Have a laugh!

The work of the committee is carried out by student volunteers. (No prior technical expertise is needed!) In addition to ‘hands on’ learning at events, a full training programme is run.
