Swimming
Swimming can be an individual or a team sport where people race to achieve points for themselves or their team. We compete in all four strokes: Frontcrawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly in the BUCS competitions. This year we have competed in the top division where we were competing against the best in the country. We finished 5th in this division and also gained some finalists in both the Short course and Long Course competitions. Even though we like to compete to a high level the sport is open to any ability and we provide a variety of ability swimming lanes.
Water polo
Water polo is a fast paced game played between two teams in a swimming pool. The aim of the game is to swim and pass the ball between your team mates and the team with the most goals scored wins. The teams consist of 6 outfield players and one goalkeeper.
This year our Men’s team have competed in the top division and have been very successful by staying in this top division whilst competing against some of the best in the country, they have done this in both the BUCS and U-Polo competitions. They also came 2nd in the North League in U-Polo.
In our Women’s team we have competed in the 1st division in U-Polo and have been very successful in doing so. We have also competed in division 2 for BUCS. The women’s team has also done well by defeating Sheffield University in Varsity this year.
Both sports are available to any ability swimmer or player however we do expect a high degree of commitment. We train as hard as we can and we compete as hard as we can to achieve our potential and we aim to improve on our successes next year. The club is also a very sociable club, and we have a very sociable and friendly atmosphere in our club which will always continue to grow.

As a club we provide most of the equipment such as pool buoys and floats, however we do encourage keen competitors to supply your own fins. These can be bought at the swimshop online or a store like decathlon.

This year members have also purchased Hallam Water polo and/or swim costumes or trunks. These are available to all members including first years. You can find out more about these at the start of the season, or look at the photos below.
Every member of the club must purchase a Team Hallam membership for £85, which is for a full year. This is available to purchase from the reception desk at either of the two Sport Hallam sports facilities. Once paid, please remember to register via the Sports Union Home Page to make your payment valid!
We train 5 times a week, you can choose whether you want to just train for swimming or just for Water Polo but we do recommend you do both even if you only want to compete in one sport. This is because both sports complement each other quite well in terms of improving fitness levels.
