Sports Committee 2012/13

Every year Hallam Union elects a group of students to make up the Hallam Sports Committee. The 2012/13 Sports Committee is made up of 10 students from a variety of sports clubs.

The Sports Committee is there to support the Sports Officer, help with the running of Sports Union events including Varsity, Winter Varsity and the Sports Ball. Also ensuring that all Sports Clubs are fairly represented within Hallam Union. Helping the development of Sport at Sheffield Hallam.

Spencer Milton

 Age: 19

Gender: male

Your Sport/Club(s): Rugby Union

Year of Study: 2

Hobbies and Interests: I live and breathe sport; mainly Rugby Union, but I also play golf through the summer. Away from sport I love travelling and socialising with friends.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
I’m looking forward to getting involved with and helping as many sports and participants as possible to ensure Team Sheffield Hallam continues to go from strength to strength.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?
I wish to increase the level of participation and support in both Varsity events, whilst obviously retaining the trophy for the 10th year in a row!

Francesca Heeley 

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Your Sport/Club(s): Korfball

Year of Study: 2nd year

Hobbies and Interests: Swimming, shopping, going out and travelling as much as I can.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
Meeting people from all the other Teams at Sheffield Hallam, also helping organise events like varsity, sports ball and the sports fair. I am so looking forward to improving and developing new and old clubs throughout Team Sheffield Hallam to make them as successful as possible.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?

Being on the sports committee this year i would like to achieve getting as many new and old students involved with the sports which are on offer within Team Sheffield Hallam as it is one of the best ways to meet new people at uni as i found out last year in my first year. Most importantly winning VARSITY for the the 10th year in a ROW!!!!!!!

Sophie Jenkins 

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Your Sport/Club(s): Lacrosse/Swimming and  Water polo

Year of study: 2

Hobbies and interests:
Lacrosse, Swimming, Lifeguarding, Teaching swimming and sleeping.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
Working with people from other teams that I would not usually get the opportunity to and learn more about other sports. A greater involvement with Team Sheffield Hallam especially Varsity 2013, Get Active Week and Sports Ball. Seeing the improvements and progress by clubs through next year compared to the previous season.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?
To retain the Varsity trophy for another consecutive year.  To try and help Team Sheffield Hallam keep improving and improve overall in BUCS. Increase popularity and improve motivation in competitive and social sport for all students: Undergraduate,Post graduate,Masters and Foreign students.

Kirsty Atkinson

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Sport/Club(s): SHU Snow

Year of study: 2nd year

Hobbies and Interests: Skiing and anything snow related! spending time with friends and family

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
Meeting new people and making friends, helping to organise varsity and make it enjoyable for all those competeing and spectating! encouraging other students who arent already involved in sport to do so to spread the success and enthusiasm of Sport Hallam.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?
Increasing the number of Hallam students participating in and watching University sports and help the union gain a more efficient link to Hallam sports clubs of all sizes.

Edward Rawsthorne

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Your Sport/Club(s): American Football

Year of Study: 3

Hobbies and Interests: Cricket, hockey, paintballing, XC mountain biking, Playing PS3, Listening to Music.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
I am most looking forward to working closely with the individual teams, helping getting involved down at Abbeydale, getting involved with Varsity, helping the union move forward and progress and making Hallam’s Athletic Union one of the best in the country.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?
I would like to achieve; The 10th straight varsity victory! Getting a Hallam Tour! However It is my aim to bring the teams’ sporting activities into the limelight, I would like to make Hallam’s sporting prowess a topic in the media, getting our name out there on twitter and facebook, getting video highlights on blogs;, Youtube etc. I want to make Hallam sport make a movement towards the media spotlight held by American colleges and be the first in the country to do it.

Your Sport/Club(s): Swimming and Water Polo

Year of Study: 2nd year

Hobbies and Interests: Swimming, Working out, Going out, Chilling out, Music, Outdoor pursuits!

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
Winter Varsity, Varsity, Winning Varsity and Sports ball.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2010/11?
Gaining a greater understanding of the provision of sport at Hallam. Being part of a team that plans a successful Varsity and memorable Sports Ball!

Tiffany Berry

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Your Sport/Club(s): Hockey

Year of Study: 4th year

Hobbies and Interests: I’ve been interested in sport for many years, which is why I chose to study a Sport and Exercise Science degree. Playing hockey, going out and having a laugh with my friends.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
Working as part of a committed team of individuals to help organise sporting events over the academic year, whilst helping to make sport at Sheffield Hallam the best it can be.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2010/11?
To help Sheffield Hallam secure the Varsity trophy for the 10th consecutive year.

Kim Boultby

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Your Sport/Club(s): Women’s Rugby Union

Year of Study: 3rd year

Hobbies and Interests: most sports, drinking and sleeping.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
meeting different sports teams and winning varsity for the 10th year running!

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?

Hopefully winning the Varsity trophy for a decade!

Gender: Female

Your Sport/Club(s): Swimming and Waterpolo, Rowing and Shu Snow

Year of Study: 2nd year

Hobbies and Interests: keeping fit, being active and competitive and meeting new people.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
Being involved with the sports ball and varsity. Also in Team Sheffield Hallam helping all clubs to excel and grow.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?

Winning Varsity for 11 years running and get people more involved with varsity.

Your Sport/Club(s): Swimming and Waterpolo

Year of Study: 2nd year

Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy going out and socialising, playing sport especially water polo and spending my inheritance.

What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Sports Committee?
I am looking forward to being more involved within the sport for Team Sheffield Hallam. Organising important calendar events such as; Get Active Week, Winter Varsity, Varsity, and the Sports Ball alongside the other committee members.

What do you want to achieve by being on the Sports Committee 2012/13?

I want to develop not just myself but also others with the idea of creating a winning culture for the success of our sporting university. Also not forgetting, to retain the Varsity Trophy!
