Sports Ball tickets now on sale!

This years annual Sports Ball is taking place on Saturday 25th May 2013!

Doors open at 6.15pm, with the main event starting at 7pm.

Tickets are on sale NOW in POD 4 at The HUBS for just £40. Last day of ticket sales will be Wednesday 22nd May. #SHUSportsBall

If your club isn’t subsidising tickets you can buy them straight away. If your club is subsidising tickets you first need to fill in the appropriate forms that are being sent to the club committee and get these signed off BEFORE purchasing tickets.

Sports Ball 2013: Shortlisted Nominees

Each club has had the chance to submit nomination forms for a range of club, team, and individual awards which recognise achievements from the season. A judging panel of Union staff, University staff and Hallam students have decided on the shortlisted nominees. Winners for each award will be announced on the night.

Men’s hockey 1sts win Gold at ‘BUCS Big Wednesday’

Leeds Metropolitan University hosted the first ever BUCS Big Wednesday on 20th March 2013. The 14 sports consisted of team finals in Badminton, Basketball, Indoor Cricket, Fencing, Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rugby League, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball. Team Sheffield Hallam had great success at BUCS Big Wednesday. Watch the video below to see the Men’s hockey 1sts in action!

Varsity 10K

This year a point from Varsity 10K went towards the overall score of Varsity 2013. The race which takes place at Don Valley Stadium, supports St Luke’s Hospice to help raise money to go towards the £4 million they need each year just to keep supporting people with incurable illnesses in Sheffield.

The race is a chance for everyone to be involved in Varsity as no mater what your ability, you can enter.

International student brings talent to the home of snooker

Sheffield Hallam University is celebrating its sporting success after second year student Varun Madum won Gold and brought home 50 British University and College Sport (BUCS) points in his first BUCS Snooker Championships last weekend.

Varun who studies Computer Systems and Networking at Sheffield Hallam University put on a fantastic performance at the BUCS Snooker Championships which constitutes one of the three major annual university tournaments and is hotly contested in the Northern Snooker Centre and Excelsior Snooker Club in Leeds.

University of Sheffield win Varsity 2013

For the first time in a decade, Sheffield Hallam University ended Varsity without the title of champions. The overall score was extremely close ending in only a two point lead to the University of Sheffield; 36.5-34.5.

The highly anticipated Finals Day was full of action and saw Hallam fight valiantly to reduce the seven and a half point gap which existed at the start of the day. A massive congratulations to all of Team Sheffield Hallam who have competed in each event over the last few months and thankyou to everyone who has shown their support for the teams.

Your Sports Committee and Sports Officer are undertaking a 24 hour rowing fundraising challenge to help raise money for SHU RAG. The 11 brave people will row 664km – the distance from London 2012 Olympic Park to the 2014 Commonwealth Games Village in Glasgow.

The Sports Committee need your support! Come down and cheer them on throughout the day and night, and bring them food and drink to help their energy levels! Most importantly, spare any money you can, even £1 and donate it here.

Varsity 2013 Finals Day Rearranged

Many of the final day Varsity fixtures due to be played 13^th March 2013, have been postponed as the adverse weather conditions cause havoc with the sporting schedule. As South Yorkshire gets set for more icy weather and freezing temperatures throughout this evening and tomorrow, the organisers of Varsity have been left with no option but to postpone various events.

All tickets that have already been purchased for tomorrow’s final are STILL VALID for the rescheduled Finals Day on 10th April.

Don’t miss Varsity Finals Week!

The waiting is over. The final week of Varsity 2013 is upon us and Team Sheffield Hallam need your support to secure a record-breaking tenth year as undefeated Varsity champions! With Hallam taking the points for Ice Hockey and Boxing but Sheff Uni hitting back by winning American Football and Snowsports, the competition looks set to go down to the wire once again.

The final week of action get’s underway at Abbeydale on Wednesday 6th March with lacrosse and ultimate frisbee matches (tickets £3). There’s only one place to be when Varsity 2013 reaches it’s conclusion though - and that’s Hillsborough Stadium for the finals day football matches. The Women’s match kicks off at 2pm, followed by the Men’s at 6pm – the final fixture of Varsity 2013. Tickets are £5 giving you access for both games.

Tickets for all events are available now from the HUBS at City campus and from Pearson reception at Collegiate.
