BUCS Championships Volunteering Opportunities

The 5th annual BUCS Championships will return to Sheffield in March 2012. This season 19 BUCS sports will be in action over five days of competition. The City of Sheffield will witness some of the best athletes in the country competing in world class sporting venues. Trampolining Club Bounce to Success!

At the recent Manchester Trampolining Competition, three trampolining club members finished in podium positions, in a hard fought competition!

Charlotte Hadley came 2nd in the novice category in the competition and in the NEUT League
James Blencowe came 3rd in the uber elite category in the competition
Jack Blencowe came 1st in the uber elite category in the competition

Well done to all Hallam students who competed!

Sport Makers

The Sport Makers programme, funded by the National Lottery, will recruit tens of thousands of new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over to organise and lead community sporting activities across the country.

Sport Makers are the people who directly make sport happen at the local level. Some Sport Makers will organise sport for themselves and their friends, colleagues and neighbours. Others won’t be taking part themselves, but will be doing all those other things that make the sporting activity possible.

Everyone who chooses to become a Sport Maker will be invited by their county sports partnership (CSP) to come to an inspiring workshop near to where they live or work. They will then be supported to find local opportunities that suit them to increase participation in sport.

Fantastic Indoor Disability Sports

Graham Solley Sports Centre is hosting a range of indoor disability sports every Wednesday until the 28th March 2012 from 12 noon until 3pm.

You can try boccia, polybat, table tennis, table games, volleyball and more! The venue is fully accessible with good parking facilities and the sessions are free to attend.

Ross Landon wins silver in the World Duathlon Championships

Ross Landon, a current Sheffield Hallam University student and Great Britain Tri-athlete for the 16-19 age category attended the World Duathlon Championships which were held in Gijon, Spain during September.

Ross came away from the Championships with a silver medal, coming second in his age group. This is a great achievement, and the Sports Union would like to congratulate Ross on this success.

Ross also came first in his age group at the European Duathlon Championships held in Limerick, Ireland which took place in April this year.
