Graduating in 2012

Charities

Each year Hallam Union will support four main charities, primarily through RAG activities, although any group within the Union is welcome to fundraise.  Each of the four main charities represent one of four categories, this year’s charities are:

Local: Sheffield Domestic Abuse Outreach Service
Regional: Safe @ Last
National: British Heart Foundation
International: Wateraid

The charities were nominated by Hallam students, and then chosen by Union Council from the nominations received.

The Charity Policy was recently amended which states that all charities can be supported by Hallam Union.

How do I nominate a charity?

Simply download the nomination form, complete all the details and email it to d.berman@shu.ac.uk.  Or you can hand a hard copy of the form in to the Activities Pod.

What should I include in my nomination?

We need to know the name of the charity and the charity number. At the bottom of the form you need to fill in your name and your SHU number.  This is so we can ensure it is only Hallam students nominating charities.

The main bit of the form is for you to tell us why your charity should be chosen.  Include facts about the charity and the good work that they do, and tell us why you believe that Hallam Union should support them.  The charity must be a registered charity and have a charity number.

When are the charities chosen?

Nominations are open all year round. Nominated for the four main charities will take place around September of every year.

We then check that the charities are registered with the Charity Commission, and that they do not conflict with any Union policies or the Articles of Governance.  We remove student names and SHU numbers then pass the nominations to RAG. The chosen charities will then be listed on the RAG pages of this website.
