RAG (Raising and Giving)

The RAG team are well on their way to get RAG out across Sheffield Hallam University!

Make sure you like the facebook page: SHU RAG

What is it?

RAG is all about RAISING and GIVING to four chosen registered charities of your Union!

It involves a group of students who come together to plan fundraising events.

Charities are nominated by Hallam students, and approved by the Rag Committee. More information can be found on the charities page.

Hallam Union and SHU Rag will support four specific charities each year. These are the charities that the Union and SHU Rag will support through their general events. The charities are nominated and voted on by Hallam students. For more information about this selection process please visit the charities page.

Policy was passed by Union Council in December 2011 to allow other Union groups (such as sports clubs and societies) to raise money for almost any charity they want to.  So if there is a particular charity close to your heart, you can fundraise in support of it.  You would simply need to nominate the charity  and have it apporved by Rag, which wouldn’t take long.

Hallam RAG is the group for you if you want to get involved with events management, exciting team work, and of course charity fundraising. It’s a great way to make new friends whilst getting involved in some exciting activities, and all for a good cause!

You can also be involved as much or as little as you like. RAG needs a committee to oversee the running of the group as a whole, event organisers to lead small teams to plan and run each event, and lots of people to take part in the events and raise lots of money! By being involved in RAG you will work closely with the Activities Officer and Hallam Union staff.

Come along to any of our fairs during Welcome Week to sign up to be part of the RAG team. We are always looking for volunteers to help plan and run the events. It’s a fun way to develop event planning skills and make new friends! Plus, you will be raising money for good causes. So if you have an idea for an event, or just want to be more involved, come along and sign up or register your interest by emailing  your Activities Officer, Helen Francis on uusactivities@shu.ac.uk.

However you choose to get involved with the Union, you will be developing many skills that employers look for in graduates. Your role within RAG could count towards a Hallam Award, which is a great way to boost your CV, and gets announced at your graduation! Check out the

Hallam Award pages for more information.

If RAG isn’t quite the right activity for you but you want to work with charities, in the community or with social enterprises have a look at our Volunteering options.
