Amnesty International Society
The Amnesty International Society is involved in national, global, and local Amnesty campaigns and our members are part of a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognised Human Rights meeting regularly on Mondays at the Union. At meetings we hold talks and take part in letter-writing campaigns on individual cases of human rights abuse, which have helped secure the release of prisoners of conscience in Iran, Uzbekistan and Guantanamo in the last year alone. This year our members have been to the student and national Amnesty UK conferences, taking part in decisions that affect the movement across the country. We have planned and taken part in numerous campaigns, including fundraiser gigs, sleep outs for destitute asylum seekers, a Stop Violence against Women march in Manchester, and lobbying local MP Nick Clegg. If you think you’d like to get involved with this kind of work then get in touch
