Societies Standing Committee

WHAT is the Societies Standing Committee (SSC)?

It involves the following:

  • Ratifying new societies
  • Approving society budgets
  • Planning large events such as the end of year awards evening
  • Supporting the Activities Officer and Societies Rep in representing the views of Hallam societies.

As a member of the Standing Committee, they will be expected to liaise with relevant members of society committees to support them in sharing best practice and to raise any issues that they are concerned about.

Rajan Deglurkar – Treasurer

Name: Rajan Deglurkar
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Course Title: Msc Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
Year of Study: Semester 2
Hobbies and Interests: swimming, cricket, reading novels and have interest in watching fiction,Sci – fiction , Political and Thriller movies.
Societies you support: Hobby Society, Indian Society, Salsa Society, Stop the traffik, Tamil Society
What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Societies Standing Committee?
I would look forward to co-ordinate, help societies organize the events successfully. I would also help the societies to increase membership number and also create awareness about Hallam Union and also generate donations for SHU- RAG societies.
What do you want to achieve by being on the SSC?
I want to achieve the key managerial skills, learn new work culture and also learn new marketing techniques which would create a base for my further goals and ambitions. i would also look forward to develop and help  the societies and hallam union and aim to get higher participation and interests from students in university to create a brand value for Hallam Union and Societies.

Kim Chinzah – Secretary

Hobbies and Interests: Photography, Travelling, Writing/Blogging, Comics, Adventure sports.
Societies you support: Computing Society, Environmental Society, Film Society, Japanese Visual Arts Society.
What are you most looking forward to this year whilst being on the Societies Standing Committee?
All the activities that have been proposed by the societies are all great! I can’t wait to let them start kicking and just have a lovely time.
What do you want to achieve by being on the SSC?
Besides personal development from this prestigious role, I would like to see my contribution as something that would help the future of Hallam Union even after I’ve graduated. If I could make the Union better for students even just a little bit by doing whatever I can to my capabilities, that’d make me contented!

Eben Johnson – Events Officer

Being Equality and Diversity officer, I like to promote student to join different societies according to their interest and liking which helpful them to live joyful and growing life and develop their network in Sheffield while they are studying in Sheffield Hallam University.
