Sporting collaboration boosts for womens football

A collaboration of South Yorkshire sporting expertise has been formed to provide Doncaster Belles with a pathway to top-flight women’s football.

The Belles are bidding to win a professional franchise in the new FA women’s Super League and have gained support from Sheffield United’s community scheme, their girls centre of excellence, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Hallam Students Union. Read more.

Tom Hannigan Selected to Represent Northern Region At English University Football Trial

He will represent our region at the English Universities Regional Tournament from 21-22 December 2009 at Warwick University. There will be a round robin competition between the Northern, Midland and Southern Universities, with the best players being invited back for an English Universities Training Camp on 4 & 5 January 2010

Town Take Over: The BBC

Students in Sheffield have gathered in the city to call on the government to provide fairer university funding.

The “street party” event featuring music and speeches was held at Peace Gardens earlier.

The gathering was organised by the National Union of Students (NUS) to voice concern over tuition fees.

The NUS said it wanted to draw attention to the “inequalities” of the top-up fee system, which it said was pricing out poorer students.

Town Take over: Sheffield Telegraph

Students in the red over threat of higher fees

 

STUDENTS joined forces to paint the town red this week – but there was no acohol involved.

 

Dozens of students from both city universities dressed in red to symbolise debt and staged a street party in the Peace Gardens on Monday, complete with music, speeches and street theatre.

 

The stunt was part of a two-day campaign to raise awareness of proposed fee increases – and the impact they are likely to have on Sheffield, its people and local businesses.

STUDENTS starting the new term at Sheffield Hallam University are being urged to tread softly as they head home after a night out.

 

Five thousand flyers are being distributed outside clubs and other venues with tips on how to get home safely and quietly. A team of student officers will be on hand to reinforce the messages.

Summer Ball 2009

The Summer Ball is coming… Friday 5th June 2009. We are please to announce this years line up which is Wiley, Nihal from Radio 1, Jaguar Skills and The Futureheads (DJ set).
Tickets are now on sale from HUBs, and online here on the Hallam Union website. This year we will not be posted out tickets, instead they can be collected from HUBs on the day of the event or on the door at Sheffield City Hall.
