The results are in and your Assembly Reps for 2011/12 are :
Rob does the job!
What experience and skills I bring to the role:
I’m just starting my third year at Hallam and I have been involved with the Union every year as a Faculty Rep, once for ACES and twice for D&S. As one of the Assembly Reps I will bring plenty of experience and skills with me that I’ve picked up from my time at Uni. My experience at the Union so far: I’ve met MP’s and been on the news. I’ve sat on Union Council for two years (Hopefully again this year!), the Disciplinary Appeals sub-committee of Union Council, the Education Standing Committee for two years, the Student Experience Panel chaired by the Vice Chancellor and the D&S Faculty Council for two years. (We don’t get iPads like the ACES Faculty Council, but we have made a positive impact on the lives of students in our faculty!!!) I’d be good as one of the Assembly Reps because I like getting feedback and I’ll make sure it gets put to good use improving YOUR student experience!!
In this role I will achieve for students:
In the role of Assembly Rep, I will spend a lot of time with Ian (Assembly Chair) helping to plan the assembly meetings and discussing ideas to make the assembly bigger and better this year to give students more opportunity to express their views and then get them heard by the right people! With a seat on Union Council, I can also influence policy decisions at Hallam Union and get students voices heard at the highest level at both the Union and University. Having a good student experience at Uni is essential to getting a good degree and the assembly can help make it even better than it already is. As the Assembly Rep I’ll make sure I’m always available to hear the concerns students have and get them heard, I’ll make sure students know that the assembly exists and that the meetings are there for them and I’ll make sure that I make a positive impact for Hallam students!
What does representation mean to you?
I really enjoy representing students, I’ve represented students at all levels of the University and Hallam Union and I always make sure your voice gets heard! It’s important you have a good experience at University and if I can help make it better then I’m doing my job, your the ones paying to be here after all!
What would you see as the main priority if you were elected?
My main priority if elected would be to make sure student feedback is heard and acted on by the highest levels of the Union and the University!
I am the best candidate because…….
I’m the best candidate because I have meetkats and free doughnuts! (Oh, also because I have lots of experience at the Union and I care about YOUR student experience!)
Good things come to those who vote Joel
What experience and skills I bring to the role:
I am a former Vice President Student Activities at my last University (Brunel) so I have all the experience of being in Council meetings and making decisions that change the outcome of the union. I have also been a part time officer which also allowed me onto the council. I have been apart of sports committee before and I look to bring that experience in guiding the union in the right direction
In this role I will achieve for students:
All students should have their right to have a say and all these views should be looked at and discussed by a decision body. I believe that with the experience I have I can actively contribute to this Council. Although new to Sheffield Hallam I am not new to student politics and I would like the opportunity to pass on what I have learnt in my previous years I think that the Student Body will become more powerful as time goes on and that this is major year for students to contribute to society. I want to bring the right changes to keep Hallam Student’s Union on the right track
What does representation mean to you?
Representation means that everyone can have a say. the more views you have the better the overall view. a representative should have the ability to collate all these view
What would you see as the main priority if you were elected?
to ensure that student assembly will make the right decision to ensure the continuing development of the Students Union
I am the best candidate because…….
I have the experience and the knowledge of student politics to make sure that the Student Union’s Council will make the right decisions efficiently
So what is Student Assembly? Student Assembly is an open meeting that all SHU students can attend, this gives students the chance to draw attention to certain issues. There is no need to do this formally, students can just turn up and raise their point. At the Assembly there will be an Assembly Chair who is responsible for ensuring everyone has equal say in the meeting. There will also be two Assembly Reps who are responsible for taking the points raised at the Assembly to Union Council which will make any appropriate decisions in relation to the points raised. What does Assembly actually do? It gives any SHU student the opportunity to have their say on any issue that they may feel strongly about. Any issues raised will be taken to Union Council for appropriate actions/decisions to be made. When is the Student Assembly? Student Assembly is held at points throughout the year at both campuses. As soon as we have the dates set we shall update them here and on the what’s on guide on the home page. What is an Assembly Rep: General Purpose of the Role: The purpose of this role is to act as the main link the between Assembly and Union Council.
