In spring 2011 Hallam Union conducted a Community Audit to find out the opinions of both students and longer term residents about the area they live in with a view to the results of the audit forming the basis for projects, events and campaigns for the following year and beyond. Here are the main findings of the report for Hunters Bar:
Residents’ thoughts about the area
Residents’ main priorities for improvement in the area
People would interact more
Residents’ main concerns about the area
Rubbish left on the street
Wheelie bins left on the street
Relations between students and non students
As a result of the report, on Saturday 28th April 2012, Katie and Dougie organised a street clean-up in conjunction with members of the Botanical Gate Community Association. Although 80% of people believe the area is clean and tidy, certain streets were seen to be worse than others. A group of volunteers worked hard to collect litter on Ecclesall Road and surounding roads to assist in keeping the area clean and tidy.
