Hallam Union: What is it?

What’s on

Hallam Students Union is a not for profit organisation that is run entirely independently from Hallam University. Hallam Union offers load of activities for you to get involved with and have fun whilst boosting your CV for when you graduate.

You can come into the building and relax in the cafe or bar, or head into the activities pod to find out how to get involved with a society, volunteering project or sports club. We run regular club nights, comedy nights and quizzes in the evenings and during the day there are often fashion markets, freebies, craft fairs, poster sales and loads more.

You should receive a monthly e-newsletter so you always know what’s on.

Have a look around this website, especially in the activities section to find out how to get involved.

Hallam Union also has an independant advice centre so if you have any question, no matter how big or small the advice centre can help, either in person, via email or on this website.

Democracy

A vital part of Hallam Union is that it is a democratic organisation. We are run by students, for students as each decision we make is in consultation with our Officer committee who are elected by students to represent their views in the decision making process (just like our government).

Each year we hold elections for a new team of Officers. Any student can nominate themselves to be an Officer and any student can vote.

The Officers are responsible for collecting student feedback about the union throughout their year in office and then feed this into Union decisions and strategies.

To find out more about this years Officers and how to contact them go to the Your Union section of this site.

Campaigns

Students Unions are campaigning organisations. We campaign on various issues that effect our students, like tuition fees, involvement in the local community, acting ethically and responsibly, sexual health, drug and alcohol awareness.

To view our campaigns go to the campaigns section under Your Union on this site. To get involved with running one of our campaigns (any student is welcome to get involved) email s.arloff@shu.ac.uk.
