It’s an information and signposting service aimed at answering basic sexual health questions and providing students with the information they need to make positive choices about their sexual health.
We can offer confidential information regarding any aspect of your sexual health, anything from where to get a full sexual health screening to who you can talk to about your sexuality to where to get information about pregnancy and everything in between.
You can get a free Chlamydia testing kit from the Advice Centre or by texting: CLEAR WS, your name, address and post code to 80010.
It may sound obvious but remember that Chlamydia screening kits will only detect Chlamydia and so if you have put yourself at risk of catching an STI then you should consider having a full sexual health screening, see our contacts below for information about where you can get one.
You can get free condoms from the Advice Centre, from the SHU Health Clinic, room 5103 in the Surrey building and from the Porter Brook Medical Centre, 9 Sunderland Street, S11 8HN (near the Collegiate Crescent campus).
If you are sexually active it is really important that you look after your sexual health, making sure that you know how to protect yourself against sexually transmitted infections (STI) and understand the facts about contraception. You may think that if you had a STI you would know about it – this is not always the case. Chlamydia for example is the most common sexually transmitted infections and can be carried with no obvious symptoms so you may not realise that you have it and if it is left untreated it can cause serious health problems and affect fertility. STDs/STIs affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and from all walks of life. Getting the facts about STDs/STIs and sexual health is increasingly important.
For loads of useful information about sex and relationships check out the BBC’s Surgery website.
